Happy Friday!!
Exactly one week week ago, we woke up at 6:30 am to head out on a road trip down to Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico. We were both exhausted from the work week we had just finished, but that didn’t stop our excitement. We rented a mini van from Enterprise and hit the road to Mexico! This was Charlie’s first time to Mexico and if you follow me on Instagram and Snapchat, you know we had to sit at the federal passport agency last week in Los Angeles for six hours the previous week. Even though we were there for six hours, we were beyond thankful to have left Los Angeles with his passport in hand because that meant we were able to go to Mexico!
We arrived at Las Palomas around 12:30 pm on Friday and checked into our amazing condo on the eighth floor. Our drive from Flagstaff was right around five hours, which wasn’t bad at all! The room had the perfect Southwest touch and colors that match the vibrant culture of Mexico. We had a one bedroom condo and it was very spacious and came with luxury amenities. We had the most amazing views of the pool and ocean. There was also a volleyball tournament happening at the same time, which was fun to watch from our balcony. After checking into our condo, we went to the pool bar for lunch where we had margaritas and split fish tacos and a carne asada quesadilla. Both meals were amazing and the fish tacos I ordered were some of the best fish tacos I have ever had!
After lunch, we were going to jet ski, but the tide had already gone out. I was more than fine with not being able to jet ski because I wanted to relax and lay out by the pool after the long week. The weather was beyond perfect the entire weekend. It wasn’t too hot and definitely not too cold, with the constant ocean breeze. After laying by the pool, we went up to our room to get ready for dinner and saw a pod of wild dolphins swimming though the ocean from our balcony, it was breathtaking!
We had dinner at El Citron, where I ordered a couple of sangrias and the salmon with rice and veggies for dinner. Charlie ordered the ribeye steak and said it phenomenal. We had so much meeting two other bloggers and their plus ones along with Jenny and Alexis who organized the amazing trip for us. We went with the group to the pool bar, where the resort had a DJ and dance floor, it was so fun to spend our Friday night there! We then went back up to the room and ordered dessert, we couldn’t pass it up. I ordered the chocolate cake and Charlie ordered the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.
As most of you know, breakfast is my favorite meal and I look forward to it everyday. Waking up to breakfast on our balcony with the most amazing view was the highlight of my trip. I loved eating my banana pancakes, drinking my coffee, while watching the water hit the beach. I could have sat and enjoyed my breakfast for hours, but we had an action packed day to get to!
After breakfast, we quickly changed into our golf attire, met then group in the lobby, and made our way to The Links, which is the only 19-hole golf course in all of Mexico. This course has stunning views of the desert, the ocean, and the beach resorts nearby. The golf pro explained to us how the architects did not move or change anything about the landscape to build the course. The entire course was designed to blend in with the landscape, so cool! Although I am not a good golfer, the cart girl and golf pro made sure we had the best time with plenty of Dos Equis and golf tips. After golfing, we had lunch at The Links and I had the most fresh shrimp tacos and Charlie had fish tacos.
We then went back to the pool to relax before getting massages at Five Senses Spa & Hair Clinic. We got a couples massage and Charlie had never gotten a massage before. We both loved our massages and felt extra relaxed while enjoying our time in Mexico. After our massages, we went down to the beach, ordered margaritas and put our toes in the water. We were both so relaxed, we were so tired and decided to go back and hang out on our balcony before dinner.
After relaxing, we met up with the group and went to La Maria for authentic Mexican food. For an appetizer, we got chips, guac, and the most amazing queso to share. The queso came with fresh, homemade tortillas and I wanted to eat ten of them. I got the chicken enchiladas and Charlie got mini chimichangas, we both loved our meals!
We then made our way to brunch at El Citron before heading back to America. El Citron had a beautiful spread of authentic Mexican dishes, an omelette station, fresh fruit, dessert, and french toast to order. I got a grapefruit mimosa, veggie omelette, and fresh fruit and Charlie got french toast with bacon. I had a couple of bites of his french toast and we decided to order another plate because it was SO good, seriously the best french toast we have ever had. We were very sad to leave Las Palomas, but we cannot wait to return soon!
